What to do in Szeged?

Sightseeing

  • Dóm tér: also known as the cathedral square, which connects Szeged’s most important buildings and monuments at one place

  • Old and New Synagogue

  • Anna Baths: we would highly recommend you going to this bath after a night partying, this is the perfect hangover cure!

  • Aquapolis: a huge swimming pool which includes agym, thermal baths, waterslides, a medical bath, sauna’s, jacuzzi’s and much more. There are enough things to do for the whole day, while the entry price is only 7 euro’s for students!

  • Votive Church

Nightlife

This town is perfect to have a fun night out with your friends, mainly because of the huge amount of students living here. The city is full with night clubs, including quite fancy ones along the river:

If you just want to grab a beer, sit and have a nice talk, we would recommend you going to the Pivot. This beer bar is just in front of the main library, which creates a nice atmosphere in the evening. Or go to Café Lobby, which is a very cheap alternative to grab a coffee, beer or eat a quick snack.

Food

The Malata bar offers a very nice and relaxing atmosphere. Go there, grab a beer and one of their hamburgers. They are HUGE and will probably be one of the best hamburgers you’ve ever tasted!

And last but not least, be sure you try the famous fisherman’s soup, this is a signature dish for Szeged and you can get it at most restaurants.

How to go to Szeged?

We highly recommend you take the fast train from Budapest Nyugati Train Station, this is the most convenient and cheapest way to go! The train goes directly to Szeged and takes exactly 2 hours and 22 minutes.

  • First class student price with seat booking: 3155 forint This would be a very comfortable journey, including WiFi.

  • Second class student price with seat booking: 2130 forint Seats are a little bit less comfy compared to the first class, but it’s completely fine and WiFi is also included.

Cheapest student price without seat booking: 1700 forint I would not really recommend booking a train ticket without a seat, since you can risk that everything is booked and you have to stand in the hallway for two hours.
