Why to go to Esztergom ?
Esztergom is the perfect destination for a day trip from Budapest. Historical city that used to be Hungary capital, it allows you to discover country side, observing de the wonderful curve of Danube and the biggest cathedral of Hungary. The funniest way to go there is by boat so you can enjoy a cruise on the Danube and discover it from Budapest to Slovakia.
What to do in Esztergom ?
You should definitevely visit the Cathedral. The treasure is really nice, as well as the crypt and the inside of the cathedral. You should also see the top of the cathedral from where you can have a wonderful view on Danube curve and surrounding area.
You should also have a walk in the city to admire typical hungarian buildings and cross the iron bridge to go to Slovakia.
What to eat ?
We recommand you to go to Padlizsan restaurant for Hungarian traditionnal food. The restaurant has nice tables, decorations, large portion of food as well as affordable prices.
Csülok Csarda is also a really nice looking restaurant with wood tables and climbing ivy but little bit more expensive.
How to go there ?
We really recomand you to go there by boat so you can enjoy Danube cruise. Mahart Passnave is the company organizing boat trip from Budapest to go there. The price is around 15€ per person. There is departure everyday at 9 :30 and return at 17 :00 from 30th April -25th September, Saturdays and Sundays, except 20th August. Please find more information about it on Mahart Passnave website, they also are organizing Danube cruises from Budapest to Szentedre or Visegrad.
